BY ADEYEMI AKANJI, BAUCHI – Journalists from various media organisations have been involved in a road accident while covering the official commissioning of projects by the North East Development Commission (NEDC) in Bauchi State.
Reports indicated that the accident, involving not less than 13 media persons, occurred during a state-wide project inspection tour on Friday, February 9, 2026, led by the Minister of State for Regional Development, Alhaji Uba Maigari Ahmadu.
According eyewitness accounts, the accident happened along the Yashi-Yelwan Duguri Road in Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State, shortly after the delegation commissioned a Government Secondary School (GSS) project in Yelwan Duguri.
It was gathered that the journalists sustained varying degree of injuries and were rushed to Yelwan Duguri Hospital for emergency care before being transferred to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) for further medical attention.
Information available indicated that the injured journalists are from Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), and Channels Television. Others include News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), African Independent television, (AIT), Arise News, and members of the State NUJ Correspondents’ Chapel, from various media houses covering the event.
Forefront News learnt that rescue operations were immediately carried out by fellow journalists, NEDC officials, and other sympathisers who helped evacuate the victims to the hospital.
One of the journalists assigned to cover the inspection tour said several mobile phones and other important reportorial equipment, including cameras and some mobile phones, were damaged in the auto-crash.
The project inspection team led by Alhaji Uba Maigari Ahmadu, Minister of State for Regional Development, included Deputy Governor of Bauchi State, Rt. Hon. Mohammed Auwal Jatau, Chairman of the NEDC’s Governing Board, Major General Paul C. Tarfa (Rtd), Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NEDC, Alhaji Mohammed Goni Alkali and other top government officials.
