BY SEGUN ADEBAYO – Outspoken Chief Imam of Apo Legislative Quarters Juma’at Mosque in Abuja, Sheikh Nuru Khalid, says his current travails will not stop him from speaking truth to power at all times.

According to Sheikh Khalid, there is no price too big to pay for “aligning with the people and identifying with their sufferings.”

The fiery Islamic preacher, who lost his job on Monday, April 4, 2022, for criticising President Muhammadu Buhari over the worsening security situation in the country, also condemned a situation where many people are hiding under the cover of religion to perpetrate all manner of evils in the country.

However, already setting his eyes on resuming at a new ‘place of work’, Sheikh Khalid is quoted in a media interview as saying; “By the Grace of Almighty Allah, I will be leading my new congregation this Friday (April 8, 2022) because as clerics we need a platform to operate.

“There’s a Jum’mat mosque we built behind the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Quarters, in Abuja; I will now be leading the congregation there.”

For the Cleric, nicknamed ‘Digital Imam’ by ardent admirers, it is unfortunate that being removed from his position over the contentious sermon reflects the sorry state of Nigeria today with many using religion to perpetrate unwholesome acts and willing to stop at nothing in cowing those standing up for the truth at all times.

On his new platform, Sheikh Khalid, accused by the Abuja Mosque Steering Committee of not being remorseful over his criticisms of the President Buhari-led administration, said notwithstanding persecution from any quarter, speaking truth to power and Nigerians should always be a delight to all well-meaning individuals and groups in the overall interest of peace and progress in the country
