Senate Moves To Slam Natasha With Six-Month Suspension
The Senate is considering slamming Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan with a six-month suspension if the recommendations of its committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Code of Conduct are adopted and approved.
The report of the Senator Neda Imasuen-led committee which was presented on Thursday, found Senator Akopti-Uduaghan representing Kogi Central guilty of violating the Senate rules and therefore recommended her to the Senate for sanction.
The committee which acted on its report with the speed of light, recommended that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan should be barred from accessing the National Assembly complex, just as her office should be sealed.
In the same vein, if the recommendations of the committee are adopted by the Senate, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s salary and those of her legislative aides will be withheld and also prohibited from representing Nigeria in any official capacity during the period the suspension will last.
The Senate is expected to vote on the recommendations, and if the recommendations are adopted and passed, Akpoti-Uduaghan could temporarily stripped of her legislative privileges.
The committee however suggested that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan might need to submit a written apology for the Senate for a reconsideration of her suspension.
