BY EDMOND ODOK – Clearly excited at being appointed into the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 general election, Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu will secure a second term in office.
Accordingly, the former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor has urged all progressive political groups across the country to unite behind the President for his successful return ticket bid next year.
Addressing President Tinubu and members of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) at the inauguration of APC presidential campaign council in Abuja on Wednesday, Soludo declared support for the President’s economic reform agenda and vision for national development, saying the principles of national unity, security and shared prosperity informed his support for Mr President
He said “We in Africa believe in the unity of Nigeria. We believe in the security of Nigeria. We believe in the shared prosperity of Nigeria”, adding that these principles were among the reasons his political group was supporting the President, whom he described as representing the three pillars needed for Nigeria’s present and future.
The Anambra State Chief executive, who also canvassed greater unity among progressive political forces, argued that the country needed a collective commitment to its development goals, adding: “I have called before that all progressives in Nigeria must unite. This is an opportunity that we must not miss. We must come together for this new Nigeria that we dream about.”
Further expressing confidence in President Tinubu’s chances of securing another term, Soludo said a renewed tenure would provide an opportunity to accelerate the administration’s reform programme, saying: “In the second term, I want to believe, it’s not if you get second term. We are talking about when you get second term.”
He described the administration’s economic reform direction as difficult but necessary, urging the President to sustain the course. “The path you are going, the path that you have chosen, that you have had the courage to take, is difficult, but it is necessary,” he said.
Banking on the next phase of the reform agenda as an opportunity to advance what he called “pragmatic progressiveness”, Governor Soludo said, “It is the acceleration path towards what I call pragmatic progressiveness that we must entrench in Nigeria.”
To further escalate his absolute support for the President, he rallied progressive political groups to unite behind a single development agenda, stressing that this critical period presents a prime opportunity to cement the administration’s core policies and drive national transformation.
“So I say to you, Mr. President, I’m with you,” Soludo said while reinforcing his support for President Tinubu’s leadership and ongoing economic reforms as necessary to consolidate the administration’s policies going forward.
Doubling down on a sweeping vision for national renewal, the Anambra Governor insisted that the survival of the country’s economic reforms hinges entirely on one continuity and challenged progressive groups to put aside friction and unite behind a single, aggressive development and growth agenda for the country.
