South-East Governors’ Forum Wades Into Okorocha/Uzodinma Crisis
BY VICTOR BUORO, ABUJA – To avoid the situation degenerating into an incontrollable dimension, the South-East Governors Forum has moved in decisively to resolve the impasse between Governor Hope Uzodima of Imo State and his predecessor, Senator Rochas Okorocha.
The squabble that ensued between Uzodima and Okorocha snowballed into an ugly incident in which supporters of the two powerful politicians were let loosed on each other on Sunday, February 21, when former governor was believed to have forced his way into the premises of the Royal Spring Palm Apartment, Owerri, allegedly belonging to his wife but sealed by the Imo government on February 19, 2021.
The situation which almost degenerated into fisticuffs and possible gunshots was however brought under control by officers and men of the Imo Police Command, which later arrested Senator Okorocha.
Chairman of the South-east Governors’ Forum, Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State, announced on Moday that the Forum is already handling the issue.
Umahi, in a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr Francis Nwaze said that contacts have already been made to resolve the impasse and assured that both parties have agreed to a truce.
According to Umahi; “South-east leaders are capable of settling their disputes internally instead of washing their linen in public. We sue for calm among the supporters of both leaders to ensure a timely and amicable resolution of the disagreement”.
