Stick To Ethics Of Media Profession, Zamfara Speaker Tasks Journalists
BY AHMED ATTAHIR, GUSAU – The Speaker of the Zamfara State House of Assembly, Hon. Nasiru Mu’azu Magarya, has urged media practitioners to be more professional and adhere strictly to the ethics of journalism.
Hon. Magarya stated this when he received the new leadership of the Correspondent Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Zamfara state Chapter in his office in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital.
According to him, media practitioners have greater role to play in educating and sensitizing the general public on the programmes and policies of government as he maintained that legislative arm of government is committed to work with the media for the common good of the people of the state.
“As eyes and ears of the society, the media have a greater role to play in informing the generality of the people on the happenings within their domains”.
” As legislators, we will redouble our efforts and work closely with the people to be able to deliver on our mandate positively”, he said.
” I congratulate Correspondent Chapel executives for emerging victorious at the just concluded chapel election, I advise you all to use your vast experience and report stories as it is, especially regarding the affairs of the assembly and state in general, most especially as we are working tirelessly to end the over a decade banditry we inherited”, the Speaker added.
The Speaker congratulated the newly-elected officials and urged them to be fair and just in their stewardship and also to carry every member of the chapel along as leadership comes with a lot of responsibilities.
