Subsidy Protest: President Tinubu In Emergency Meeting With Labour Leaders
Following protests which enveloped most states of the federation on Wednesday planned by the organized labour over the escalated cost of living and hardship being experienced by citizens, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is currently meeting with the leaders of the Niger Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), at the presidential villa, Aso Rock, Abuja.
The protests followed what the organized labour-led by the NLC and TUC said was as a result of the removal of petrol subsidy which has affected every other cost of living without adequate measures in place to mitigate the effect on the economy and people.
For instance, the protest in Abuja, witnessed the pulling down of the gate of the National Assembly when overzealous security agent attempted to prevent the protesters from entering the National Assembly to meet with the leadership of the legislature.
Similar protests took place in different state capital during which the organized labour made their demands known to the government which include the cut in cost of governance and the turn-around of the four nation’s refineries located in Kaduna, Port Harcourt and Warri.
As at the time of filing this report, the meeting between President Tinubu and labour leaders was still going on.
