BY VICTOR BUORO, ABUJA – Five persons were confirmed killed on Saturday while 46 others sustained various degrees of injury when Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was triggered at Muna Garage in Maiduguri, Borno State.
Spokesperson of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in the Northeast, Mr. Abdulkadir Ibrahim, who gave the figure, said the bombing was triggered by two suicide bombers.
According to Ibrahim: “Immediately we received a distress call, emergency response teams were dispatched to the scene. The suspected suicide bombers had detonated their explosives within 5 minutes interval at Muna Dalti settlement.
“As a result, three persons and the two bombers died while other innocent people sustained various degrees of injury.”
Also speaking, the Director Rescue Operations of the State Emergency Agency (SEMA), Mallam Usman Kachala, said the incident occurred at about 8: 00pm.
He said the corpses of the victims were evacuated while 45 others injured in the suicide bomb attack are currently receiving treatment at the Maiduguri General Hospital Maiduguri.
In the words of Kachalal; “The two female suicide bombers detonated the Improvised Explosives Device (IEDs) vests strapped to their bodies in a crowded place at Muna-Dalti area of Maiduguri on Saturday night. Two of the deceased actually died while on admission in the hospital.”
