Taraba Boils Again As Tiv/Ichen War Leaves 10 Dead, Villages Burnt
BY AMEH IDUJAGI, JALINGO – Not fewer than 10 persons are believed to have been killed while over seven villages reportedly burnt as the Crisis between the Tiv and Ichen tribes in Donga Local Government Area of Taraba State got ignited again.
A source said that some of the major villages burnt down included, Suntai Daji and Ananum while about five other surrounding villages were sacked and all the houses burnt down.
It was gathered that the militia men have taken over the entire area forcing thousands of people including women and children to flee for their lives.
A source in the area, Mr Danazumi Dauda told our correspondent in a telephone interview that armed militia were moving with sophisticated weapons went on rampage on Tuesday morning attacking Ichen and Tiv villages to retaliate the lost incurred by both tribes during the first clash between the two warring communities in Marraramba village on April 30.
He said thousands of refugees have crossed over to parts of Kurmi, Bali, Gassol and Takum Local Government Areas.
The source however said that it is difficult to give the exact number of those killed so far, adding however that it might not be fewer than 10 persons since the crisis began last week.
When Contacted, the police spokesman, DSP David Misal confirmed the fresh attacks and burning of Suntai Daji, Ana Um and other villages, adding however that it is difficult to know the exact casualty figure for now even as he said that more police personnel have been drafted to the trouble areas.
