Tinubu Suspends NSIPA Coordinator, Halima Shehu Appointed In October 2023

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 approved the immediate suspension of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and the National Coordinator and Chief Executive Officer of the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA), Halima Shehu.

The President stated that Halima Shehu’s suspension was with immediate effect and therefore directed for her replacement.

Halima Shehu, who was appointed by President Tinubu and later screened and confirmed by the Senate on October 18, 2023 as National Coordinator of the NSIPA, was suspended over allegations of fraud in the agency she headed and was accordingly directed to step down to allow an investigation into the allegations against her.

Following Halima Shehu’s suspension, President Tinubu approved the appointed of Mr Akindele Egbuwalo as Acting National Coordinator of the NSIPA, pending the conclusion of a comprehensive probe ordered by President Tinubu.

Before his appointment which took immediate effect, Egbuwalo was the National Coordinator of the N-Power program.

Halima Shehu also worked as the National Coordinator of the Conditional Cash Transfer Programme, during which she used her banking and career experience commence the digitalization of the program.
