…Reaffirms commitment to ADC

The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr. Peter Obi, has revealed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government offered him “juicy” incentives to abandon his opposition stance, but he refused.

He said that his refusal to accept such juicy incentives was based on philosophy and political ambition that is rooted in a desire to see Nigeria function effectively, against the backdrop of his experiences in countries where governance works.

Obi, who stated these on Monday, also said that despite the internal disagreements in the Labour Party, the opposition had resolved to rally under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to present a united front.

The former governor of Anambra State stressed his believe and loyalty to the ADC, saying that it the chosen platform for opposition leaders seeking to unseat the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.

Obi pointedly said that the goal of the coalition was not just to gain political power, but to change the fortunes of Nigeria.

He said; “We are not uniting just to wrestle power—count me out, if so. If it is to change Nigeria’s fortune, yes. I’m not desperate for the presidency, but for a changed Nigeria.

“I was offered much by the government, but no. Someone asked if I’m being paid—sister, I live here, so no”.

Obi said that there was “nothing wrong” with the Labour Party as an institution, but criticised what he described as its descent into “transactional politics,” a style of politics he doesn’t believe in.
He gave the assurance that more political heavyweights would join the coalition ADC before the 2027 elections, adding that the platform had been unanimously adopted by opposition leaders as the most credible vehicle for challenging APC dominance.

Obi further said; “I assure you, before 2027, more will join as opposition unites”.
