Trump Invites Buhari To White House

President of the United States of America, Donald Trump has invited Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari to visit the White House with assurances that America is ready to support the fight against terrorism in the West African country.
In what should now assuage the frayed nerves of Nigerians and douse controversies surrounding President Buhari’s health status, President Trump spoke to his Nigerian counterpart in London on telephone on Monday.
Special Adviser to President Buhari on Media & Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina said in a statement that the telephone call was at the instance of Mr Trump, who has also invited the Nigerian President to Washington DC at a mutually convenient date.
According to Adesina’s statement, “President Muhammadu Buhari this afternoon from London spoke to President Donald Trump on telephone at the request of the American President. “The conversation was cordial and President Buhari congratulated Trump on his election as President of the United States, and on his cabinet.
“The two leaders discussed ways to improve cooperation in the fight against terrorism through provision of necessary equipment. President Trump encouraged President Buhari to keep up the good work he is doing, and also commended him for the efforts made in rescuing 24 of the Chibok Girls and the strides being taken by the Nigerian military”, the Presidential aide said.
The statement further added that, “President Trump assured the Nigerian President of US readiness to cut a new deal in helping Nigeria in terms of military weapons to combat terrorism.”
President Buhari is currently on an extended medical vacation in London, United Kingdom since Thursday, January 19, 2017 when he travelled out for a 10-day medical leave. He was expected to return home on Monday, February 6, 2017 but later transmitted another letter to the National Assembly seeking an extension to his leave on the advice of his doctors thereby instigating speculations about the state of his health.
