Imo Guber Race: LP Will Refund N25m Nomination Fee To Late Aspirant’s Family – Abure
- Anumudu bought form ahead of primary election
Still mourning the sudden death of its governorship aspirant in Imo State, Humphrey Anumudu, the Labour Party (LP) has promised to refund the N25 million nomination fee paid by the deceased to participate in the party’s primary election.
The Labour Party National Chairman, Comrade Julius Abure made the pledge in Abuja on Tuesday after meeting with the Party’s National Assembly members-elect.
This is as Abure also assured that no newly elected members of the National Assembly under the party will defect to other political parties in the course of their duty tour at either the Red or the Green chamber.
The late Anumudu had purchased the form to contest the LP primary ahead of the November 11 governorship election in Imo State but died in questionable circumstances last week.
Abure, who explained that the party’s decision to return the nomination fee to the family of the late Anumudu was to show empathy and compassion, said; “You will recall that one of our aspirants in Imo State lost his life. I am pleased to announce to members of the public and members of the Labour Party family and his immediate family that the party will refund the nomination fee of N25 million that he spent.
“We feel that we need to do this the support the family and show leadership of compassion, of empathy and that is what the Labour Party stands for.”
Anumudu, a native of Mbieri Ancient Kingdom in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State, was found dead in his Lagos home after returning from a meeting at the LP secretariat in Abuja.
According to competent sources, the auto merchant died suddenly on Friday evening in Lagos, a development that came as a shock to many family members, friends, business associates and LP supporters.
