The Presidency has announced the readiness of the United States Government to deepen security cooperation with Nigeria towards wiping out terrorists and other criminal elements breaching the peace of the country.

At a congressional session last week, top officials of the U.S. government confirmed that diplomatic discussions with Nigeria were ongoing to find a lasting solution to security challenges in the West African nation.

A statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Information and Strategy, stated that the U.S. has pledged to provide enhanced intelligence support, defence equipment, and articles to reinforce ongoing operations against terrorists and violent extremist groups in the country.

Onanuga said that the agreement was struck following a series of engagements held last week between a high-level Nigerian delegation and US officials.

According to him; “The talks centred on strengthening security partnerships between the two countries and opening new avenues for cooperation”.

The federal government delegation, led by Nuhu Ribadu, National Security Adviser (NSA), engaged top officials across the US Congress, the White House Faith Office, the State Department, the National Security Council, and the Department of War.

Onanuga further said that the Nigerian delegation during the engagements in Washington, DC. Took time and refuted allegations of genocide in Nigeria.
