Uche Secondus Clinches PDP National Chairmanship Post
- Adeniran, Dokpesi reject outcome
BY SEGUN ADEBAYO, ABUJA – Despite last minute horse-trading and re-alignment of forces by the South-West zone, Mr Uche Secondus was early Sunday morning declared winner of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s National Chairmanship polls.
In the three-horse race, the former Acting National Chairman of Party dusted Professor Tunde Adeniran and Raymond Dokpesi to capture the coveted seat at the elective convention held on Saturday at the Eagles Square, Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city.
The new Chairman emerged victorious after amassing 2,000 votes as against 230 votes and 66 votes secured by Professor Adeniran and Dokpesi at the Convention.
After being declared winner by former Governor of Benue State, Mr Gabriel Suswam who served as Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Secondus was immediately sworn-in as the new National Chairman of the Party.
Meanwhile, reports reaching Forefront indicated that a protest has already come from the camps of the two defeated Chairmanship candidates at the elections.
Forefront gathered that while the South-west zone consensus candidate, Professor Adeniran had walked out of the Convention alleging irregularities in the electoral process, the Dokpesi camp rejected the election outcome citing the imposition of the so-called ‘Unity list’ on the Convention delegates.
