Unknown Gunmen Abduct Kogi Monarch, Kill Palace Staff
Unknown gunmen have reportedly abducted the traditional ruler of Oghara in Kabba Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State in an attack that saw one person dead.
Reports said hoodlums invaded his palace in the early hours of Tuesday to abduct the royal father and in the process shot dead a female domestic worker identified as Toyin Onare, who is a widow.
According to available information, abducted alongside the traditional ruler, Chief David Obadofin during the attack was one of the Chiefs, Temidayo Elewa.
Confirming the incident, the Kogi state Police Command’s spokesman, SP William Aya, said the hoodlums arrived at the vicinity around 3 am and shot sporadically into the air before gaining access to the palace.
Aya stated that Chief Obadofin, a major cashew farmer and a traditional ruler, was with one of his boys resting in front of the house when the attackers struck.
He said as the gunmen were whisking away the traditional ruler and Temidayo to the bush, one person was however, lucky to escape, adding that Toyin, who was shot at the palace did not die immediately.
According to him, she was later confirmed dead at the General Hospital, Kabba, headquarters of the Local Government Area (LGA).
SP Aya added that the state Commissioner of police, Hakeem Yusuf, had deployed a tactical team of officers to the area to fish out the perpetrators and rescue the victim.
Meanwhile, at the time of filling this report, there was high level of apprehension and anxiety within the Community as the kidnappers were yet to make any contact concerning the welfare of the royal father and other abductees
