Comfort Emmanson, the female passenger who assaulted airline officials on an Ibom Air flight from Uyo to Lagos, has been remanded in Kirikiri Correctional Facility.
Tunde Moshood, special adviser on media and communications to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, announced this in a post on X on Monday, August 11, 2025, saying that her remand followed her being charged to court.
This was just as the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) warned that enforcement actions against unruly conduct in Nigerian airports will become more stringent and frequent.
Some videos posted on social media showed how Emmanson attacked flight attendants and also confronted airport security officials.
A statement by Ibom Air explained that the incident began shortly before take-off in Uyo when Emmanson refused to switch off her mobile phone as required by aviation safety procedures.
Ibom Air further said that a fellow passenger turned off her phone which triggered a heated outburst and upon arrival in Lagos, Emmanson reportedly confronted the purser who issued the instruction and physically assaulted her.
The airline described Emmanson’s behaviour as a serious threat to the safety of its crew, passengers, and aircraft.
Ibom Air therefore announced a travel ban on Emmanson, which prohibits her from boarding any of its flights in the future.
