- Rescue three kidnapped victims
A group of rampaging armed bandits tormenting parts of Koton Karfe Local Government Area in Kogi State met their waterloo on Sunday as personnel of the State’s Vigilante Group neutralised 11 of them and successfully rescued three kidnapped victims from their den.
Reports indicate that acting on intelligence, the Vigilante Group also arrested an alleged operative with one of the security agencies, who alongside a friend, has been supplying the criminals with weapons and information to carry out their wicked crimes.
The serial operations also led to the arrest of some other bandits with detailed accounts by the Vigilante operatives indicating that; ”Alaidi is their ring leader, and he was killed during the first camp attack. Rabo and seven others were crushed. Madei and one other were killed in the second kidnappers’ camp while Umar escaped with gunshot injury but was recaptured”.
They also confirmed that five of the kidnappers arrested, including the civil defense operative, were now in the Department of State Security (DSS) custody for further investigations.
In reacting to the cheering news, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Muhammed Onogwu said such security success by the operatives was a welcome development and clear proof that Kogi state security architecture was strong and solid enough to quash all forms of criminal vices
Onogwu said Local Vigilantes across the state have continued to record good results following the morale booster and support from the Governor as well as the cooperation of Kogi people and synergy among security personnel in the State.
Maintaining that efforts by the State Government to keep the momentum of Kogi being the safest state in the country have continued to yield significant results, Onogwu reiterated the administration’s resolve to continuously secured the lives and property of the people while making Kogi state ‘a no go zone’ for criminal elements
The governor’s spokesman said government at all levels would not relent in efforts at sustaining a peaceful Kogi state where every nooks and cranny would be unsafe for criminals and their sponsors.
