The Warri Refining & Petrochemicals Company (WRPC), situated in Warri, Delta State, has resumed operations.

It is expected to be producing at a capacity of 125,000 barrels per day.

Mr Mele Kyari, Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), announced this on Monday, December 30, 2024 during an official visit to the refinery.

Speaking with members of a tour team, Kyari stressed the significance of the refinery’s revival, saying that the plant is running.

In his words; “We are taking you through our plant. This plant is running. It is not 100 percent yet, but we are still in the process.

“Many people think these things are not real, that such achievements are impossible in this country. We want you to see that this is real,” he said.

Present during the facility tour was Farouk Ahmed, Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), who commended the progress made at the refinery.

The recommencement of operations at the Warri Refinery is seen as a major step toward enhancing the nation’s local refining capacity thereby reducing dependence on imported petroleum products into the country.
