We Must Unite For Development – Hon. Agbaje Appeals To Constituents
BY GRACE ANYANWU – The member representing Akoko-Edo II State constituency in the Edo State House of Assembly, Hon. Emmanuel O. Agbaje has declared that more than ever before, the present time in the history of Nigeria calla for collective and collaborative efforts towards greater and mutual beneficial development of the area.
Towards this end, Hon. Agbaje, who is popularly known as ‘Emilo’ called on community leaders and indigenes of his constituency and the Local Government at large, to as a matter of collective interest of the people particularly the upcoming youths, unite and evolve development strategies for the overall benefit of the area.
Agbaje noted that in today’s world, unity of purpose and collaborative efforts remain the quickest way to achieving greater and more beneficial development.
Speaking at the First Akoko-Edo Summit tagged; “Evolving A New Socio-economic Order” which took place in Ososo under the chairmanship of Dr Kingsley Ekundayo, Hon. Agbaje said that in spite of little disagreements which is expected in politics, there are certainly more and greater interests that bind the people of the area together, stressing that the more they unite, the more development the people would be able to attract to their area without friction.
In the words of Agbaje; “In Nigeria today, no single community can stand on its own, collective effort is the way to go. We need each other more than ever before”.
Taking a critical look at the Okpameri Leaders of Thought, Agbaje described the initiative as good and worthy of emulation.
He further said; “I will like to commend the Okpameri communities of Akoko-Edo for their wonderful initiative of setting up Okpameri Leaders of Thought. I have followed their engagements and activities for a while and wishes to opine that this summit can lead to the expansion of the frontiers of that forum to cover the entire Akoko-Edo interest”.
The Lawmaker, who was represented by one of the former Senior Special Assistants to Governor Godwin Obaseki, Mr James Osheku, however lamented the ugly incidences of rising cases of rape and drug abuse in the Local Government which he said must be check in order to have a better society for future leaders that abound in the area.
Agbaje particularly commended the Executive Director of BraveHeart Initiative (BHI), Priscilla Usiobaifo on her efforts to check such incidences and abuses.
He said; “May I also seize this opportunity to commend one of our own who has been at the battle front against violence against persons especially the menace of brutal rape of minors which became prevalent in Akoko-Edo, Miss Priscilla Usiobaifo, the driver of BraveHeart Initiative”.
