BY WILLIAM ATTAH, GOMBE – The Gombe State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has said that its 2021 Ward Congresses that was mainly by consensus, took over 24 hours to conclude owing to the protocols involved in the exercise which included documentation, issuance of result sheets, waiting for members to arrive the venue among others.

The State chairman of the party, Dr. Danjuma Dabo, who stated this while chatting with journalists shortly after he started receiving results from the 114 electoral wards of the State on Sunday evening, said the exercise started on Saturday in all the 114 wards across the State.

Dabo also said that due to long distance that had to be covered before the results could reach Gombe, the exercise extended till Sunday evening.

According to him; “We had to set up a committee of three people each to go to the wards to do the local Congress committee on Saturday and before all these were concluded, it was 10 to 11am on Sunday and you can imagine the distance the had to cover.

“It is not an election that is time bound. It is an affirmation because there was consensus. The party prescribed it and it was adopted in Gombe State and it worked very well for us. That is why we held it peacefully in Gombe State and the results are coming in now,” he said.

Earlier, Governor Inuwa Yahaya in his Jekadafari Ward, at the Jekadafari Primary School, participated in the Congress where 27 executive members were affirmed.

This was done in compliance with what the Stakeholders in the State adopted earlier on following the advice and guidelines from the national body of the party.

He said the APC remains open to everyone who wants to join while expressing his satisfaction with the peaceful conduct of the exercise.

Yahaya said; “The party is being transformed in preparation to the 2023 election. In Gombe State, we believe we are in control and by God’s grace, we shall continue to dominate the political landscape in the State and the country at large”.
