Wike Hits PDP With Sledge Hammer, Revokes Its National Secretariat Plot
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Mr Nyesom Wike, has approved the revocation of the Right of Occupancy (R-of-O) of the land allocated the Peoples Democratic Party for its new National Secretariat situated in the Central Business Area of Abuja.
This was contained in a statement by the FCT Administration, stating that the land allocation for the PDP’s proposed new national headquarters, which had been a subject of controversy since its approval, has now been rescinded.
The FCT Minister specifically cited what he described as “inconsistent documentation and non-compliance with regulatory procedures” as primary reasons for the revocation.
Wike said that the move aligned with his administration’s commitment to transparency and the enforcement of land-use policies in the nation’s capital.
Wike in a statement explained that the decision was taken in the interest of the public good and to uphold the integrity of our land administration system.
In a swift reaction, the PDP condemned the action, describing it as politically motivated and an attempt to undermine the party’s growth and operations.
The PDP said the decision was an outright attack on it and a deliberate attempt to stifle the opposition in the country, vowing to challenge the revocation in court.
The PDP’s revoked plot of land is one of the over 4,000 land allocations affected in the revocation carried out by the FCTA which it predicated on failure by allottees to pay Ground Rents for upwards of ten years.
The FCTA said that most of the allottees of land in the centre of Abuja had not paid Ground Rents for between 40 and 43 years.
