  • There is no cause for alarm – APC

BY OUR CORRESPONDENT – Worries and anxiety took centre stage as key All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders were conspicuously absent during Vice-President Kashim Shettima’s condolence visit to the family of the late elder statesman, Alhaji Aminu Dantata, in Kano.

With officials of the Kano State Government, who are members of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) fully on the ground to welcome Vice President Shettima, the non-appearance of APC officials at last Thursday’s event has now sparked off serious public discourse about likely internal wrangling in the State Chapter of the nation’s ruling party.

Shettima was on a visit to convey President Bola Tinubu’s condolences to the family of late business mogul and philanthropist, Alhaji Aminu Dantata, while also commiserating with the government and people of Kano over the loss. However, insiders hinted that such a high-profile event should have attracted top party chieftains and supporters to receive the Vice President and his entourage.

Amid what some have considered a storm already brewing, insider sources are alleging a crack within the APC family as certain elements have remained aggrieved over the unceremonious exit of Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje as the Party’s National Chairman.

According to one of the competent sources, Ganduje, who is the immediate past governor of Kano State, still commands influence in the state’s politics, and his obvious undignified exit from power on 27th June 2025 is not being taken kindly by some loyalists as they blamed the development on the betrayal of trust and political machinations ahead of the 2027 general elections.

There are indications that fingers have been pointed at the Vice President for keeping mute in the face of Ganduje’s travails, even as close associates of the former Kano governor are holding grudges that the APC’s hierarchy deployed manipulative plans and actions to ensure the North West State lost the ruling Party’s plump National Chairmanship seat.

There Nothing Political – APC

In the thick of current events and speculations, the Secretary of APC, Kano chapter, Ibrahim Zakari Sarina, has dismissed as mere conjectures insinuations of infighting or discord within the Party, insisting that miscommunication was responsible for how things turned out during the Vice President’s visit.

Waving off any mischief or boycott by party leaders’ non-attendance at the condolence visit, Sarina said, “We were fully aware of the visit, but communication came late. Before we could mobilize and move, it was already too late. Because the government was closer and already prepared, it took charge of the reception.

“Honestly, it has no link to any political development whatsoever. We were just informed late, and even the state government was informed late. We later extended our appreciation to him (vice president) for the visit, and he fully understood the situation”.
