Zamfara Girls’ Kidnap: PDP Taunts Buhari Over Alleged Complicity

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has challenged the Presidency to come clean on alleged connivance by the military and certain top government officials in Boko Haram’s kidnap of 300 students from Government Girls Secondary School (GGSS), Jangebe in Zamfara State by Boko Haram terrorists.

The nation’s main opposition party described as ‘alarming’ allegations in the public space that complicity within army circles made it easy for kidnappers to invade the school reportedly located less than 100 meters from a military check point.

“Our party demands explanations to reports that soldiers stormed the community two hours earlier and ordered residents to clear the streets and retire to their houses, only for the bandits to invade the town, assaulted the school and carted away 300 innocent girls without any impediments”, a statement by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan said.

Particularly referring to concerns expressed by the Northern Youth Movement (NYM), PDP said; “there are already insinuations in the public space that the abduction was plotted by unscrupulous high-level officials of the Buhari Presidency, who are allegedly benefitting from the insurgency, terrorism and banditry going on in our country.”

The PDP further demanded answers on the baffling reports, saying; “the National Security Adviser (NSA), General Babagana Mongunu, should come clean on the allegations that escalation of acts of terrorism, including the rampant kidnapping of students, were masterminded to heat up the situation and justify the demand for huge allocations for the anti-terrorism efforts.”

Warning of dire consequences if the speculations were true, the PDP further said; “Our party and indeed, all well-meaning Nigerians, insist that the Buhari Presidency must not keep quiet in the face of these huge allegations but immediately clear the air and restore confidence in the hearts of Nigerians, before it is too late.”
