Former Super Eagles Coach, Christian Chukwu, on Thursday said the Eagles will overcome Iceland on Friday at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, if the players are aggressive and motivated against the European nation.

He said in Abuja that the Eagles must be creative in order to defeat Icelanders in their second Group D match

According to Chukwu, the time has come for the players to apply individual skills to achieve result, adding; “They should go all out to redeem their image and that of Nigeria by playing as if it was their last match.”

“Aggressiveness is required of them in order to expose their opponents’ weakness” and carry the day, Chukwu said.

Chukwu, who captained the Green Eagles to the 1980 African Nations Cup hosted by Nigeria, expressed optimism in the ability of Nigeria to beat Iceland, adding that; “As a Nigerian, I pray for victory over Iceland, but we need to work for it.”

He said the players must shun showboating and play as a team if they hope to outclass their opponent and achieve victory in the make or mar tie.

The ex-Eagles gaffer said the performance of African teams so far at the Mundial has been less than impressive and particularly took a swipe at the Eagles whom he rated low after their first outing against Croatia.

The former international however said that no hope was lost “because football as a game is unpredictable.”

The Eagles, who lost 2-0 to Croatia in their World Cup opener, are scheduled to take on Iceland on Friday in their second outing.

Already, Egypt and Morocco look ready to return home from the tournament having lost two matches each. – NAN
