2019 Elections: Atiku Promises Agric, Commerce Revolution
- 9 faint at PDP Kano rally
BY SALISU IBRAHIM, KANO – Former Vice President and the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar says Nigeria will witness revolution in agriculture and commerce sectors if voted into office as President on Saturday, February 16, 2019.
He said with the mandate of Nigerians, the PDP would ensure the agricultural sector receives priority attention with the required support to boost food production in the country.
Making the pledge of putting both sectors on the front burner of his administration at the PDP presidential campaign rally inside the Sani Abacha stadium, Kofar Mata in Kano on Sunday, Atiku said; “I want to assure that if I am elected President, I will focus on agriculture and support the business community to enhance commercial activities in the state.
“The people here are known to be farmers and business oriented, so if you elect me, I will support agricultural sector and improve on the business activities of the people.”
The former Vice President, who had to address the mammoth crowd from his campaign vehicle, also promised to restore Kano State’s lost glory in terms of commercial and related business activities.
Also pledging to improve Hajj operations towards reducing the challenges bedeviling the exercise, the PDP Presidential flag-bearer pleaded with the people to come out enmasse and elect the party’s candidates at all levels.
In his remarks, the Party’s National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus expressed happiness over the large turnout of people at the venue, noting that the unprecedented crowd that converged on the stadium was a clear testimony that ‘Kano State is for PDP’.
Also speaking at the event, Senator representing Kano Central, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso urged all eligible voters in the state to support Atiku and other party candidates for their success in the elections.
Among those who accompanied Atiku to the state were one of his wives, Hajiya Rukayya Atiku; his running mate, Mr Peter Obi; and Senate President, Bukola Saraki
Others include the Kano State governorship candidate, Abba Kabir-Yusuf; and former Jigawa State Governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido as well as other party officials in Kano.
Nine Slump At Rally
However, reports said nine supporters of the PDP on Sunday fainted inside at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano state during its presidential standard bearer, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar on Sunday.
The nine were part of a mammoth crowed of supporters that were on hand to welcome the Atiku’s campaign train in Kano
Among the nine persons said to have fainted due to the heat and difficulties in breathing were six males and three females as the supporters struggled to have a glimpse of Kannywood celebrities that performed at the rally.
Our correspondent gathered that the victims were treated and later discharged from a private clinic that they were taken to after the incident.
Popular names like Sani Danja and Adam A. Zango among others were some of the celebrities that performed at the venue.
