2023: Northern CAN Youth Wing Warns Gov Lalong, Rejects APC’s Muslim-Muslim Ticket

BY WILLIAM ATTAH, GOMBE – Despite efforts at explaining the choice of a Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket by the All Progressives Congress (APC), the discontentment continues to grow daily with the Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (YOWICAN) in the 19 Northern States and Abuja the latest group to join the political fray.

And the group has warned of dire consequences in the event that concerned stakeholders remain adamant in backing and promoting the ruling party’s obvious disdain for the Christian populace in Northern Nigeria.

Therefore, the youths have conveyed their anger and warning to the Chairman of the Northern Governors Forum and Plateau State Governor, Simon Bako Lalong, expressing readiness to come all out against the arrangement it described as “evil and satanic plot to Islamize Nigeria”.

In a strongly worded statement signed by its Chairman, Evangelist Musa D Misal and Secretary, Sarafa Adekunle Oyewo, which was cited by Forefront in Gombe, YOWI-CAN rejected the APC’s Tinubu/Shettima ticket in its entirety, threatening to mobilize their teaming members to distance themselves from the skewed and insensitive packaging by the ruling party.

Besides urging Governor Lalong to convene a meeting of all Northern APC Christian members to chart a way forward or be termed a puppet of the Hausa/Fulani oligarchy, the youths also challenged all Northern APC Christian members to immediately withdraw their support for Tinubu/Shettima candidacy.

According to them; “We call on our father, the Executive Governor of Plateau State and Chairman of the Northern Governors Forum, Rt Hon. Simon Bako Lalong to convene a meeting of all APC Northern Christians to chart a way forward or else he may be seen to be a puppet of the Hausa/Fulani oligarchy”.

Further amplifying their shock over Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s preference of Senator Kashim Shettima as his running mate amid calls and advice by well meaning Nigerians of both faiths to the contrary, YOWI-CAN said; “Now that the dice is cast and the APC has come out to tell us that there is no credible and competent northern Christian worthy to be Vice President of Nigeria, we the entire northern Christian youth reject this in all its ramification and will mobilize our teaming members to distance themselves from this evil and satanic plot to Islamize Nigeria.

“Furthermore, we shall ensure that we strategize and protect the votes so that the evil plotters will not rig the elections. I assure you that we have millions of voters to make the change possible

“We call on our northern APC Christian politicians to take the path of honour and immediately resign their support for Tinubu and his running mate.”

Insisting that Christians in the are done with being treated as second class citizens in their country, the youth group vowed to “resist in all legally possible ways, this unnecessary provocation of the northern Christian people and will ensure that we mobilize against any northern Christian who still see a future in the Tinubu/Kashim ticket.”
