2023 Polls: PDP Candidate, Mutfwang Mocks Gov Lalong
- Says paying workers’ salaries not an achievement
BY CHAMBERLAIN ODEY, JOS – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, says it is not only laughable but disgusting for the Governor Simon Lalong-led All Progressives Congress (APC) administration to list payment of workers’ salaries as his achievements in the last eight years.
He said no purposeful government would canvassed for votes based on the fact it is living up to its responsibility of paying workers their monthly entitlements.
Accordingly, Mutfwang said if voted into power, his administration would focus on building “a new Plateau” where all stakeholders are made to feel at home; protected and cared for at all times.
The PDP candidate, who was addressing Party’s stakeholders at a Town Hall meeting as part of his campaign build up for the forthcoming elections, said paying staff salaries and pensions as at when due would enjoy priority attention when elected into office.
Also clearing the confusion bandied about by those he described as “bad dreamers”, he said the PDP has no legal entanglements bordering on the emergence of its candidates contesting the forthcoming elections.
Mutfwang assured the people that PDP in Plateau State remains the safest and most viable platform as far as the coming elections are concerned, stressing that their votes for the PDP will translate as an insured mandate.
Urging the stakeholders to ensure their voting pattern during the elections begin from the top with a vote for Atiku Abubakar as President; and Mutfwang as Governor; all the way to the State House of Assembly members, he promised that the PDP would not disappoint the Plateau people.
In his remarks at the forum, the PDP State Chairman, Chris Hassan, regretted that Plateau State presently does not have a Governor to champion the cause of the people and project their interests on all fronts, boasting that the PDP presents a viable and worthy alternative in Barrister Caleb Mutfwang with the capacity to ensure Plateau State regain its lost glory.
Hassan told the Party stakeholders that the PDP conducted and concluded its primaries without rancour and litigations, adding that unlike other parties, the PDP is most prepared for this year’s polls.
He said though mistakes were made in the past, it is important for all Plateau people to return home and vote the PDP back into power because it is the only Party whose philosophy captures; reflects and meet their socio-economic and political aspirations.
Also speaking at the event, Chairman of the Atiku/Mutfwang Campaign Council, Letep Dabang, thanked the PDP for giving him the opportunity to correct a fundamental mistake he made earlier by joining the APC at inception in 2015, saying he has realized his error and returned home.
He urged all Plateau residents to join him in repositioning and refocusing the PDP for better day days ahead, while also pleading with the electorates in Ryom and the entire State to “show our candidates compassion and favour”.
Participants at the interactive session harped on the need for peace, security, state police, local government autonomy, women inclusiveness, herders-farmers mutuality, banking, traders, and commerce, education, payment of teachers and civil servants salaries, and youth development programmes among others.
Earlier at the palaces of the Atar Aten of Ganawuri, Yakubu Chaimang and the Gwom Rei of Ryom, Samuel Jwak, the PDP governorship candidate, Mutfwang thanked the Royal Fathers and the entire traditional council for their efforts in sustaining peace in their respective domains
The monarchs, who took turns to pray for the candidate and his entourage, wished him well and success at the upcoming polls
The Stakeholders’ meeting cum consultations, which held at the Ryom Development Association Town Hall, was well-attended and featured a lively question-and-answer session.
Interestingly, the hall was filled to capacity with elders, women, and youths who kept cheering the PDP gubernatorial candidate all through the engagement session.
