Alleged Organ Harvesting: Ekweremadu Remains In Custody As UK Court Adjourns Case Till Oct. 31, 2022
The Central Criminal Court in the UK on Thursday adjourned to October 31, 2022, the case on alleged organ harvesting against Nigeria former Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu.
At the resume Court session on Thursday, Senator Ekweremadu requested that a new lawyer should represent him.
Senator Ekeremadu and his wife Beatrice, are facing charges bordering on conspiracy to arrange/facilitate the travel of another person with a view to exploitation, namely organ harvesting.
Mrs. Beatrice Ekweremadu was granted bail on July 26, 2022, on stringent conditions over alleged organ harvesting case filed against her and her husband.
The trial judge handling the case is going to hear pretrial applications on October 31, even as the trial is scheduled to commence fully on May 2, 2023.
Ekweremadu and his wife were arrested by the London Metropolitan Police in June 2022 and made to appear before a Magistrate Court in July.
The Metropolitan police are alleging that David Ukpo, the alleged victim at the centre of the organ harvesting allegation, is a 15-year-old but the court ruled that he is 21.
