BY GRACE ANYANWU, ABUJA – The Coalition of Arewa Youth Forum is demanding for the immediate sack of the Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi over his negative utterances on the ongoing Nigeria River Ports.

The Coalition while urging President Muhammadu Buhari to sack Amaechi without further delay, noted that the minister’s comments was a deliberate act of sabotaging the nation’s economy.

These were contained in a statement by the National Coordinator of the Coalition, Alhaji Nuhu Sani Lere, in which he lamented that it is totally uncalled for and unacceptable for Amechi to appear on a national programme on the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) to describe the Federal Government’s efforts aimed at providing four river ports in the country as waste of funds.

Sani Lere noted that Amaechi’s action is a deliberate act of sabotage on the nation’s economy, particularly against the backdrop of President Buhari’s administration commitment to diversifying from mono economy to one that will be supported by solid minerals, agriculture and other non-oil exports.

He noted that it is disheartening for a serving minister such as Mr. Rotimi Amaechi to say; “Nigerians produce nothing. Nigerians want Baro Port and I constructed it for them that’s all,” on a television programme that is being viewed worldwide.

Sani Lere therefore said; “The Minister is practically discouraging and campaigning against the efforts of the Federal Government on Sea Ports by comparing it with train transportation which according to him is faster and more secured”.

The Coalition therefore stressed that Amechi does not in any way deserve to continue to serve as a minister of Transportation owing to his incompetence in managing huge economic potentials in the transport sector.

The Coordinator of the Coalition of Arewa Youth particularly viewed Amaechi’s comment as a jeopardy and outright sabotage of the programmes of the government that pays his bills and gave him an opportunity to serve as a minister for two terms.
