The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has confirmed that its National Caretaker Committee (NCC) Chairman, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, was on Friday involved in an auto accident along the Abuja-Kaduna Highway.

According to the Party’s National Secretariat, Makarfi, a former governor of Kaduna State, had his vehicle in multiple crash with other cars on his way to Kaduna for what sources described as widening consultations to rebuild the major opposition party.

Spokesperson of the party, Dayo Adeyeye, who issues a statement on the crash, stated that Senator Makarfi “and all other passengers in his vehicle came out unhurt.”

Adeyeye’s statement said there was no cause for alarm over the unfortunate incident, adding; “This is to allay the fears of our Party members, teeming supporters and well wishers who heard of the accident and have been making frantic calls; as well as those who may stumble on half-baked information.”

Only recently, the Senator Makarfi’s led faction got official endorsement when the Supreme Court’s ruling confirmed him as the authentic Chairman of the PDP.

The judgment finally put an end to the raging leadership crisis, internal rumblings and numerous legal tussles that tore PDP apart in the last 16 months following Senator Ali Modu-Sheriff’s emergence as the Party Chairman, courtesy of maneuverings by then National Executive Committee and Board of Trustees (BoT) members.
