As Baptist Church ends confab
BY ADEYEMI AKANJI, BAUCHI – Christians in Bauchi State have been tasked to continuously preach the gospel of peace and unity for the state and Nigeria to tread the path of growth and development.
Speaker of Bauchi House of Assembly, Abubakar Suleiman said a peaceful disposition by both Christians and Muslims cannot be compromised given that the country is currently passing through very trying times of economic hardship and insecurity
Suleiman spoke at the closing ceremony of the quarterly meeting of Antioch Baptist Association (ABA) held at First Baptist Church, Ningi at the weekend.
The Speaker, represented by his Campaign Secretary, Alhaji Musa Haruna Tiffin, lauded the Christian community in Ningi Local Government Area (LGA) for living in peace and harmony with their Muslim counterpart.
“In Ningi, both Muslims and Christians, are living in peace and with mutual respect. This is the story in most parts of Bauchi State. We are all brothers keepers. Our country is at trying moment, insecurity, unemployment, rape and other forms of violence, name it”, he said.
According to him; “As religious leaders, you have critical role to play in salvaging the country, through preaching and admonishment for peace, fear of God and patriotism.”
Suleiman, who thanked the Forum for choosing Ningi to host the Conference, pledged to sustain existing partnership with them and all religious organizations towards peace building, development and addressing all issue affecting the society.
In his remarks, Moderator of Antioch Baptist Association, Rev Ezekiel Oyebode commended the state government’s efforts at ensuring peace and stability exist in the state.
Rev Oyebode particularly commended the Speaker for displaying religious understanding and tolerance by his decision to be part of the meeting without even notifying them saying, “this is a demonstration of sensitivity to the happenings around.”
The Clergyman assured that as law abiding citizens, Christians in the area, particularly those of the Baptist denomination, will continue to support moves aimed at promoting peace and peaceful co-existence in the state.
He however appealed for continuous accommodation of Christians in the area, stressing that it is only in a peaceful atmosphere that positive development and progress can be achieved.
Members of ABA are drawn from Bauchi, Toro, Misau, Ganjuwa, Katagum and Ningi Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state.
