You Can’t Justify Killing In The Name Of Religion – Buhari
President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday said no one can ever justify killing another in the name of religion, warning that the Federal Government is determined to deal with all perpetrators of violence and criminality across the country.
He said the government is investigating and will bring to book those that perpetrate mayhem in the name of religion or any guise whatsoever.
The President, who spoke at the State House Abuja in separate meetings with the Qadiriyya Muslim Movement in Africa and the Izalatul-Bid’a-Wa-Iqamatus-Sunnah, said no religion or civilised culture tolerates violence, especially the taking of human lives.
According to the President, anyone or group of persons unleashing violence on the innocent and other individuals in the name of a movement, cause or religion absolutely lack proper understanding of God’s ordinances.
President Buhari said; “You can’t kill to please God; and I know no religion tolerates the taking of another person’s life in the name of a religious movement.
“There is never a justification for killing any member of the society. We have been tackling the Boko Haram menace, and we have made significant impact, and we will extend the measures to stop all wanton killings”,
He stated that government will consistently review the nation’s security apparatus and architecture to check existing and emerging threats towards the peaceful co-existence of all Nigerians as well as ensuring the safety of lives and properties in the country.
The President said the administration has been unfailing in providing adequate security, fighting corruption and stimulating the economy for job creation in line with the campaign promises by All Progressives Congress (APC).
“Our priority is to also ensure that everyone in the country has something to eat. We are really concerned about the underprivileged.
“Graciously, God has been hearing our prayers. In the past two years, we have had bountiful harvest due to favourable conditions. All over the country, we have reports of farmers posting good harvests”, he said.
Addressing the issue of corruption, President Buhari told the delegations that security agencies will generally expand their dragnets to ensure the restoration of sanity in public offices.
The President assured that; “Justice will be done to all in the war against corruption. As religious leaders, I urge you to reach backwards to your followers to respect the rights of others. Those that stole from the public can no longer sleep well in the country today. When they run abroad, they cannot take their landed assets with them. We will, in all cases, have them return what they looted.”
Speaking on behalf of Qadiriyya Muslim Movement in Africa, its leader, Dr Keribullah Nasir Kabara said the organization would continue to uphold the President in prayers for good health and longer life to pursue the course of building a stronger nation that caters for all citizens.
Kabara said the reports of improved security in the North East and better harvests for farmers across the nation were clear signs of God’s favour on the government, urging the President to continually look unto God.
He stated that the improved security situation in the country has made it possible for about 10 million Qadiriyya members from different parts of Africa to gather in Kano and commemorate birthday of the Movement’s founder without a single incident.
For Shiekh Bala Lau, who led the second group of Ulamas, the government’s ongoing drive for infrastructural development in the country was roundly applauded.
Lau challenged President Buhari to always have in mind the lower segments of society that look up to him to champion their cause of improved welfare and emancipation from poverty.
