
The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered the immediate release of the deposed Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, who was banished to Awe town in Nasarawa State
The embattled Sanusi was dethroned on Monday by the Abdullahi Ganduje-led Kano State government on Monday, March 9, 2020 for alleged acts of official insubordination.
Justice Anwuli Chikere granted the interim order following an ex parte application moved by the ex-royal father’s lead counsel, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN) on Friday.
The Court also directed that the order to release the deposed monarch from detention should be served on the respondents to the application.
Respondents to the application include: the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Muhammed Adamu; Director General, Department of State Service (DSS), Yusuf Bichi; and the Attorney General of Kano State, Ibrahim Muktar.
Also on the list of respondents is the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN).
In giving effect to his order, Justice Chikere has fixed Thursday, March 26, 2020 for further hearing in the case.
