COVID-19: Gov Yahaya Hosts Ventilator’s Producers In Gombe
- Pledges support for patent rights

BY ADEYEMI AKANJI, GOMBE – The Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has pledged his administration’s support to young innovators and entrepreneurs in the State to achieve their dreams
He spoke while playing host to three indigenes of the State who are currently trending in the media for their feat in producing a locally made ventilator to support the ongoing battle against the coronavirus pandemic in Nigeria.
The trio are Dr Yunusa Muhammad Garba of Human Anatomy Department, Gombe State University; Aliyu Hassan, a graduate of Mechatronics Engineering; and Usman Dalhatu, a 200 level student of Mechanical Engineering at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria.
Governor Yahaya said the State government is also willing to back them in obtaining required patent right to produce more for the global market.
“I commend you for this Innovation and guarantee you of my support and that of my administration in this your endeavor. We are indeed proud of you”, the governor said
He therefore directed the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) as well as Commissioner for Science, Technology and Innovation to liaise with the Presidential Taskforce on Covid-19; Federal Ministry of Science and Technology; and other relevant agencies and organisations with a view to attracting patronage for the young inventors.
He said the Gombe Industrial Park now in the offing will provide a platform for young scientists and innovators in the State to leverage on in showcasing themselves and their products to the world.
“If we can go back to the rudiments, pursue and improve on what we have, we can be like Japan and China who utilized their local talent to achieve greatness. We have the brains and intellectual resources to become a reference point like other developed nations”, the governor said.
A statement by Ismaila Uba Misilli, Senior Special Assistant, Media and Publicity to the Governor said the Commissioner of Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr Aishatu Umar Maigari and Senior officials of her Ministry led the threesome to visit the Governor.
