COVID-19 Update: Kano Leap-frogs FCT As Nigeria’s Tally Hits 1932 Cases
- NCDC records 204 cases in 24 hours
BY VICTOR OSOWOCHI, ABUJA – As the number of coronavirus confirmed cases continues on the upward trajectory in Nigeria, Kano State has leap-frogged the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja on the list after recording 80 cases in 24 hours.
The development therefore brings the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the nation’s most populous North West state to 219, with the FCT’s tally now at 178 cases.
Figures released by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) late on Thursday night indicated that a total of 204 new cases were reported in one day, bringing the overall number of confirmed cases in the country to 1932.
The NCDC said though no new state reported a case in the last 24 hours, as at 11.50pm on April 30, 2020, seven deaths were however recorded.
Of the total number of cases, 319 patients have been treated and discharged while the 58 deaths recorded cut across 34 states and the FCT.
A breakdown of the 204 fresh cases reported from eighteen (18) states showed that Kano had Eighty (80); Lagos – Forty-five (45); Gombe – Twelve (12); while Sokoto and Bauchi recorded Nine (9) each.
Others are Edo and Borno – Seven (7) each; Rivers and Ogun – Six (6) each; FCT, Akwa Ibom and Bayelsa – Four (4) each; Kaduna -Three (3); Oyo, Delta and Nasarawa – Two (2) each with Ondo and Kebbi having one (1) case each.
According to NCDC, as at April 30, thirty-four (34) states and the FCT have recorded at least one confirmed case of #COVID19 with 71 per cent of all cases from three States
On the encouraging rate of recovery by confirmed cases; the NCDC said on its official website; “Nothing gives us more joy than discharging #COVID19 patients. We’re working hard to provide the best care for everyone.
“Our goal is to ensure any investment or public health intervention in response to this outbreak improves our system long term,”
