COVID-19 Update: NCDC Reports 184 New Cases, Total Now 4,971
BY VICTOR OSOWOCHI, ABUJA – Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) says 184 new cases of the deadly Coronavirus (COVID-19) were recorded as at late Wednesday night, bringing the total infections to 4,971 in the country.
The Centre also confirmed that though no new state reported a case in the last 24 hours, the number of fatalities rose by six (6) thereby taking the tally to 164 deaths recorded in 34 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
In a tweet on Wednesday night, the NCDC said of the 184 new cases reported from 22 states, Lagos had (51); Jigawa – (23); Bauchi – (16); Katsina – (16); Kano – (14); with FCT and Rivers recording (10) each.
Others are: Kwara – Nine (9); Delta and Kaduna – Five (5) each; Sokoto and Oyo – Four (4) each; Kebbi, Nasarawa and Osun – Three (3) each; Ondo – Two (2); while Anambra, Ebonyi, Edo, Enugu, Niger and Plateau recorded One (1) case each
According to the NCDC, till date, 29,408 samples have been tested across the country, with 3,737 active cases from the total of 4971 confirmed cases while 1070 patients have been treated and discharged from different Isolation Centres and accredited hospitals.
Figures from official World Health Organization (WHO)’s disclosed that since its outbreak in Wuhan, China last December, about 294,199 people have died from the coronavirus globally.
Meanwhile, amplifying its partnership with various state governments to contain the virus spread in the country, NCDC also tweeted “One of the most important statements in the Act establishing NCDC is our mandate to support states in responding to disease outbreaks.
“One way in which we support states is by training the lab scientists responsible for carrying out testing in #COVID19 testing labs across Nigeria”
