COVID-19 Update: NCDC Reports 339 New Cases, Tally Moves To 7,016
BY VICTOR OSOWOCHI, ABUJA – The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Thursday puts Nigeria’s total number of infections at 7,016 with 339 new cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) in the country.
The NCDC said as at Thursday, May 21, 2020, “339 new confirmed cases and nine (9) deaths were recorded in Nigeria”, adding that; “No new state has reported a case in the last 24 hours.”
According to the figures captured on the Centre’s website, “Till date, 7016 cases have been confirmed, 1907 cases have been discharged and 211 deaths have been recorded in 34 states and the Federal Capital Territory.”
The NCDC, on its twitter handle, also gave the breakdown of the 339 new cases reported from 18 states as follows: Lagos – (139); Kano- (28); Oyo – (28); Edo – (25); Katsina – (22); Kaduna – (18); Jigawa – (14); Yobe – (13); Plateau – (13); and FCT -(11).
Others are: Gombe – Eight (8); Ogun – Five (5); Bauchi and Nasarawa – Four (4) cases each; Delta – Three (3); Ondo – Two (2); Rivers and Adamawa – One (1) case each.
The NCDC further said that healthcare workers are being trained to practise standard care precautions at all times as part of government’s efforts to contain the virus transmission in the country.
