COVID-19 Update: Nigeria’s 663 New Cases Hike Tally To 13,464 With 365 Deaths

BY VICTOR OSOWOCHI, ABUJA – The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Tuesday night said with 663 new cases, Nigeria recorded its single highest daily figure since the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic broke in the country

Consequently, the Centre explained that the 663 new cases, confirmed in the last 24 hours, have now pushed the total number of reported cases nationwide to 13,464.

Figures posted on the Centre’s official Twitter handle also indicated that four deaths were recorded on the day, which took the tally of confirmed deaths to 365 patients.

This is as latest figures by Johns Hopkins University showed that 7,185,573 cases have been detected worldwide, with 408,954 deaths and 3,352,665 people do far treated and fully recovered from the virus infection.

In the African continent, confirmed figures showed that South Africa has so far reported 52,991 cases with 1,162 deaths while Ghana has 9,910 cases with about 48 deaths.

According to the NCDC’s reports, “On the 9th of June 2020, 663 new confirmed cases and 4 deaths were recorded in Nigeria”, adding that; “No new state has reported a case in the last 24 hours.”

It further explained that: “Till date, 13464 cases have been confirmed, 4206 cases have been discharged and 365 deaths have been recorded in 35 states and the Federal Capital Territory.”

Of the 663 new cases reported from 26 states of the Federation, Lagos again resumed its leading position after a day’s off with I’ve 170 cases, followed by Ogun – (108); Bauchi – (69); Ebonyi – (49); Edo – (33); Rivers – (30); FCT and Jigawa with (26) cases each.

Other states listed with reported cases are: Delta – (20); Anambra – (17); Gombe and Kano – (16) each; Imo- (15); Abia – (14); Borno and Oyo (11) each; Plateau – Eight (8); Kebbi and Kaduna – Six (6) each; Ondo – Four (4); Niger and Katsina – Two (2) cases each; while Osun, Ekiti, Kwara and Nasarawa reported One (1) case each.
