
In what is widely considered as ongoing consultations aimed at dousing heightening tension in the polity, President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday met behind closed doors with former Minister of Defence, General Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma (rtd), at the State House, Abuja.
Personal Assistant to the President on Photography, Mr Sunday Aghaeze, confirmed the development via pictorial reports on the meeting.
Though the agenda of the meeting was unknown to State House correspondents as at the time of filing this report, insiders hinted that it may not be unconnected with current unhealthy events and security related challenges across the country
The insiders also said the meeting was arranged as part of Buhari’s presidency ongoing engagements with critical stakeholders to find lasting solutions to the nation’s worsening security and socio-economic challenges.
General Danjuma, who has been very critical of the present administration’s actions and inactions, was Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS) from July 1975 to October 1979
On Friday, October 23, 2020, President Buhari had presided over a crucial virtual meeting with former Nigerian leaders at the Council Chamber of the State House, Abuja.
The former leaders, who participated in the meeting virtually from their homes included General Yakubu Gowon; Olusegun Obasanjo; and Ibrahim Babangida.
Others were General Abdulsalami Abubakar; Goodluck Jonathan; and Ernest Shonekan.
Similarly, the President met with members of the nation’s security and intelligence community on Thursday, October 22 in Abuja, and later addressed the nation on the #EndSARS protests embarked upon by some aggrieved youths in the country. – With NAN reports
