Former Inspector General of Police (IGP), Alhaji Ibrahim Ahmadu Coomassie is dead.

Aged 76, he died on Thursday evening at the National Orthopedic Hospital, Katsina after a brief illness

Alhaji Coomassie’s demise was announced in Abuja by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ibrahim K. Idris on behalf of the Police Management Team and the entire Officers and Men of the Force.

A statement by the Police High Command said on Thursday that: “The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ibrahim K. Idris on behalf of the Police Management Team and the entire Officers and Men of the Force with a heavy heart regret to announce the demise of IGP (RTD) Alh. Ibrahim Ahmadu Coomassie, GCON, NPM, mni, Sardaunan Katsina, Garkuwan Hausa, who died at the age of Seventy Six (76), this evening at the National Orthopedic Hospital, Katsina after a brief illness.”

The statement titled: “Sudden Demise of IGP (Rtd) Alhaji Ibrahim Ahmadu Coomassie (GCON), NPM, mni” and signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Acting DCP Jimoh Moshood further said; “The IGP commiserate with his family, the good people and Government of Katsina State and our dear Nation, Nigeria on this great loss. May his soul Rest in Peace.”

According to the Police Spokesperson, he will be buried according to Islamic rites on July 20, 2018 at his residence, No. 1 Ibrahim, Coomassie, GRA, Katsina State after Friday prayers.

Born on March 18, 1942 in Katsina, Katsina State, the late IGP was enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force as Cadet Inspector on the May 11, 1964.

Trained at the Police College, Ikeja, late Coomassie was appointed the 9th Indigenous Inspector General of Police (IGP) on August 26, 1993 and retired in 1999.
