Four Years After, Dasuki Breathes Freedom From Detention, Sowore Also Freed
BY AMOS DUNIA, ABUJA – After four years in detention, former National Security Adviser (NSA), Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd), breathe the air of freedom from the cell of the State Security Services (SSS).
Dasuki was arrested in December 2015, by the SSS over alleged diversion of $2.1billion arms funds while he served as the National Security Adviser to former President Goodluck Jonathan.
The former NSA was released less than an hour after the convener of #RevolutionNow protest, Mr. Omoyele Sowore was released from detention by the SSS.
Lawyer to Dasuki, Mr Ahmed Raji SAN, confirmed the release of his client on Tuesday evening.
The SSS had detained Dasuki for over four years in spite of five orders of Courts granting him bails including the ECOWAS Court.
The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami had on behalf of the Federal Government directed the State Security Services to release Dasuki and Sowore following a review of their cases and based on the bail granted them by the Courts.
Some notable international community and human rights and civil society organisations, Lawyers, political parties and other prominent Nigerians had called on the Federal Government to obey court orders and release all those illegally being detained.
