Fubara Extends Olive Branch, Invites Pro-Wike Lawmakers For Talks
As part of moves aimed at finding an amicable resolution of the political crisis in Rivers State, Governor, Siminalayi Fubara on Friday extended an olive branch to members of the pro-Wike legislators.
This followed an official invitation the Governor sent to the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Martins Amaewhule, and all members of the legislature for a crucial meeting aimed at resolving key governance issues.
In the letter dated March 7, 2025, and signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Tammy Danagogo, the meeting has been scheduled to hold on Monday, March 10, 2025, at the Rivers State Government House, Port Harcourt, by 10 a.m.
A perusal of the letter of invitation by Forefront News, showed that the agenda of the meeting include discussions on providing a suitable space for the Assembly’s sittings, presentation of the State Budget, payment of all outstanding remuneration and allowances of lawmakers, and other matters necessary for moving the state forward.
The invitation extended to the legislators by Governor Fubara signalled major reach out by Governor Fubara in an attempt aimed at mending the strained relationship between the executive and legislative arms of government of the State as a result of the political tension.
As at the time of filing the report, the Speaker Amaewhule-led legislators were yet to respond to the invitation.
Their acceptance or rejection of the invitation from the Governor would determine the next line of action by either said of the political divide in Rivers State.
