Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, has condoled the family of popular Nigerian Actor, Babatunde Omidina, who passed away on Monday.

Gbajabiamila said Omidina, fondly called by his stage name, Baba Suwe, was one thespian that entertained Nigerians and brought joy to many homes through his comical talent.

The Speaker implored his children and family to find solace in how Baba Suwe used his God-given talent to influence the lives of others positively, saying he left behind a vacuum too difficult to fill.

In sending his condolences to the Omidina family, good people of Ikorodu, Lagos, the Nigerian film industry and Nigerians, especially the numerous fans of Baba Suwe, the Speaker equally prayed for the repose of his soul.

Similarly, Nollywood stars have started paying tribute to veteran Yoruba actor, Babatunde Omidina, popularly known as Baba Suwe, who is confirmed to have died on Monday.

According to reports, Baba Suwe’s death was announced by one of his sons, Adesola Omidina.

And some of Baba Suwe’s colleagues, who immediately took to their social media accounts in reaction to the news, include Yewande Adekoya; Sola Kosoko; Muka Ray; and Sunny Alli.

In her tribute, Yewande Adekoya Abiodun wrote: “Rest In peace legend.”

For Sola Kosoko-Abina, one of the daughters of veteran actor Jide Kosoko, it was indeed very sad news. She wrote, “Oh my God, rest in peace.”

Muka Ray, one of the sons of legendary actor, Ray Eyinwunmi, also expressed shock saying, “Haa, rest in peace.”

Sunny Alli, a member of the Odunfa Caucus, who worked closely with the late Baba Suwe in his prime wrote: “Innalillahi waina illaehi rojiun …RIP Baba Suwe.”

Yomi Fabiyi, one of the proteges of late Omidina could not hide his sadness. While his phones have remained busy; he shared candlelight as well as emojis of weeping on his Instagram account.

On her part, Lola Idije wrote: “May your soul rest in peace BABA SUWE.”

Meanwhile, Adesola Omidina, a son of the late veteran Nigerian comic actor, Baba Suwe, has apologised to members of Theatre Arts And Motion Pictures Practitioners Association Of Nigeria (TAMPAN); and Nigerians over his comments after his father died yesterday.

The young man, also an actor, in a video that went viral, showed his father’s corpse while claiming that friends and colleagues of Baba Suwe abandoned him in his time of need.

While retracting his statement, the Omidina via his Instagram page wrote, “As the son of the veteran actor, late Babatunde Omidina ‘Baba Suwe’, I am genuinely issuing this statement to denounce and condemn the video(s) about Baba Suwe’s death that has been wrongly posted.

“The Nollywood, TAMPAN, the government, Prophets, family and fans have been supportive in their own ways. I tender an apology to all the groups, people and families affected! Again, please disregard any inappropriate ‘video’ circulating social media.”
