Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State on Saturday narrowly escaped death by the whiskers as a truck crushed two vehicles in his convoy.

An eye witness said the accident happened shortly after Fintiri and some of his commissioners boarded a black Mercedes bus at the end of a wedding which took place at the Agga Mosque in Dougirei area of Yola, the state capital.

Forefront News gathered that the truck rolled down the steep road and crushed two vehicles in the convoy of the Adamawa Governor.

It was further gathered that the truck suddenly moved towards Governor Fintir’s convoy at a high speed, an indication that its driver must have lost control, a development that led security men controlling traffic flow at the venue to run for safety by taking-off to different directions.

However, two policeman attached to the security team of the governor namely Inspector Madu and Sergeant Isa were not that lucky as they sustained some injuries.

Our correspondent gathered that the injured Inspector Madu was still lying unconscious at the Intensive care unit of the Specialists Hospital, Yola while his junior colleague, Sergeant Isa had regained consciousness.

It was also gathered that the driver of the truck later managed to steer the truck away from the direction of the bus conveying Governor Fintiri and members of his cabinet but hit the official vehicle of the Permanent Secretary, Political and Security Affairs at the Government House as well as a Peugeot 406 conveying a video journalist and two policemen that eventually got injured.

A visibly shaken Governor Fintiri rebuked the driver for his inability to steer his truck in keeping with driving rules and regulations.

The elderly driver of the truck later received a dose of the beating from the police escort attached to the governor just as a young man who tried to plead on behalf of the driver equally tasted from the anger of the team of police escort who threw them into a police pick up van and whisked away to the Jimeta Police Division.
