Governor Mohammed Of Bauchi Drops Commissioner Nominee 24 Hours After

BY ADEYEMI AKANJI, BAUCHI – Barely 24 hours after submitting the name of a commissioner nominee along 16 others, Governor Bala Mohammed on Wednesday, withdrew the nomination of a pharmacist, Samaila Adamu Burga from the list of 17 before the State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation.

The new twist was announced at the plenary of the Assembly by the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Tijjani Muhammed Aliyu, who said that he received a message from Governor Bala Mohammad to that effect.

Aliyu said the Governor informed the House his withdrawal of the nomination of Sama’ila Adamu Burga from Tafawa Balewa Local Government as a Commissioner nominee.

The House then directed its Committee on Business and Rules to come up with time table for the screening of the Commissioner nominees which will commence next week Tuesday.

Also during plenary, the report of the House Committee on Rules and Business and House Committee on Finance on a Bill for a Law to make provision for the Management of Funds of the Bauchi State House of Assembly and other related matters 2021 was laid by the Majority Leader, Tijjani Muhammad Aliyu.

The Joint Committee observed that the Fund Management Law is intended to ensure accountability and transparency of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, ensure effective and efficient utilization of fund, enable the House to exercise power to manage its capital and recurrent expenditure and create administrative structure to facilitate effective operationalization of the financial autonomy.

According to the Report, the law will also facilitate effective, efficient and speedy operation of legislative business, enhance the visibility of the Office of the Clerk in matters of administration, legislative business and appropriation process and provide opportunity for closer working relation between the political and the bureaucracy.

The Joint Committee recommended that all the 22 clauses as provided in the Bill be retained as submitted which was unanimously adopted as recommended by the Committee.

The Majority Leader, Hon. Aliyu then moved a motion for the Bill to be read the 3rd time and was seconded by the Minority Leader, Bakoji Aliyu Bobbo.

The Speaker thereafter put the motion to a voice vote and it was unanimously carried and accordingly directed the Clerk of the House Umar Yusuf Gital Esq to carry out the 3rd reading after which the Bill was passed.
