Federal Government offices, Banks, Financial institutions, shops and other businesses in Abuja and most State capitals in the country on Thursday, August 1, 2024 shut down following the commencement of the protest against #badgovernance, #hunger, #inflation, #corruption and #unemployment in the country.

This was as most of the major streets and major roads in the country were seen deserted and empty as the protesters took to the streets in keeping with the planned nationwide protest.

While it was not officially announced that the banks and offices would be shutting down their offices, none was however opened even as some interpersonal discussions with staffers of different organisations indicated that they were advised to stay off duty pending when the situation is considered safe enough for work.

A staff of MTN in Abuja who does not want to be quoted, said that he did not go to work today because his office was closed to prevent possible attacks by some of the protesters. Similarly, a civil servant in Abuja told our correspondent on phone, that without any notice, it was understood that there would be no work throughout the duration of the protest to prevent possible attacks on workers and offices.

Overall, the strike took place in Abuja, Lagos and most State capitals that included, Kaduna, Jos, Bauchi, Gombe, Sokoto, Akure, Maiduguri, Kano, Minna, Suleja, Benin, Asaba amongst others.
