A former Attorney Gneral of the Federation (AGF) and minister of justice, has declared that in spite of the attempt to silence him through all sorts of allegations and detention, he remains resolute in the struggle.

Malami said that despite recent and having spent time in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and the Department of State Services (DSS), he believes that it was all God’s will and he accepted it.

He however vowed that he will defend himself against the allegations preferred against him, stressing that his rights were violated by searching his houses and business premises without notifying him during the investigation.

Malami said; “Constitutionally, I have the right to be present during a search to oversee the investigation of my property and to know exactly what is being looked for or taken”.

The former AGF who stated these in an interview conducted in Hausa language, also said that he had no regrets whatsoever regarding his actions during his tenure as minister of Justice.

Malami emphasised that he was denied the constitutional right to be present during the searches to monitor the process and know what items that were being examined or taken, stressing that his rights were seriously violated during the investigation.

He further said; “Security agencies searched my homes and business premises without notifying me”.

Malami, his wife, Bashir Asabe, and son, Abdulaziz, are facing a 16-count charge bordering on alleged money laundering, preferred against the trio by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), for which they pleaded “not guilty” to the charges.

The former AGF was later remanded in Kuje prison, but rearrested on January 19, by the operatives of the DSS shortly after his release from the Kuje Correctional Centre.

Malami on January 21, 2026, pointedly accused the DSS of denying him access to his family members and legal team.

However, a Federal High court sitting in Abuja on February 27, 2026, granted Malami and his son bail in the sum of N200 million each for alleged terrorism-related offences for which he recently fulfilled the bail conditions and regained freedom.
