Suspended Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has declared that he is not desperate to return to office as his “spirit has already left” the position.

Fubara, who stated this on Sunday, May 11, 2025, during a service of songs held in honour of the late elder statesman, Chief Edwin Clark, said that not everything is by oshogbe.

He therefore called for calm and strategic action as against confrontation.

In the words of Fubara; “Do you even know if I want to go back there? My spirit has already left there.”

At the event which was organised by the Rivers Elders Forum and attended by several prominent figures, various speakers referred to Fubara as “Governor” and condemned his suspension and demanded for an immediate reversal of the declaration of State of Emergency, particularly the suspension of the Governor and his deputy.

However, in his response, Fubara distanced himself from the sentiments, saying that they were personal opinions which in his view, may not contribute to the needed peace in the state.

Fubara noted that the actions of some of his supporters had unintentionally escalated tensions, thereby making his situation more precarious.

He counselled that the focus should be concentrated on celebrating the legacy of Chief Edwin Clark, whom he praised for living a selfless life and advocating for the Niger Delta region, rather than turning the event into a political congregation.

President Bola Tinubu had on March 18, 2025, suspended Governor Fubara, his deputy, and the members of the Rivers State House of Assembly owing to political tension between Governor Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Nyesom Wike.
