IPI Nigeria, NUJ To Host World Press Freedom Day Symposium
The International Press Institute (IPI) Nigeria in collaboration with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), will on Friday, May 6, 2022 hold a one-day symposium to commemorate the 2022 World Press Freedom Day.
A press statement by the body’s Secretary of the IPI Nigeria, Malam Ahmed I. Shekarau said the event will take place at the National Press Centre, Radio House, Area 8, Garki district, Abuja by 10:00am.
In the statement, Shekarau said that former Director General of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Prof. Tonnie Iredia, will be the guest speaker at the symposium.
It further states that Prof. Iredia, who is presently a lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication, Nasarawa State University, will speak on the topic; “What Journalists and Media in Nigeria Need to Do to Keep Safe, Retain Credibility and be Sustainable”.
The statement also states that panelists to discuss Prof Iredia’s presentation include, the Senior Special Assistant on Media to the First Lady, Hon. Muhammad Sani Zorro; the President of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Mrs. Ladi Bala and the Nigeria Police Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.
The panel discussion, according to the statement, will be moderated by the Editor-in-Chief of the Leadership newspapers, Mr. Azubuike Ishiekwene.
The IPI statement further said that the event will be graced by top media practitioners, editors and reporters.
It also said that provision has been made for remote participation by stakeholders who may not be at the venue of the event by providing a Zoom link for virtual participation which is provided as follows:
